Frontier Circuit Riders Displayed God's Heart

"What do you think?  If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying?  And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray.  Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should go perish."

Matthew 18:12-14

The pioneer circuit riders pressed through many dangerous and difficult circumstances to bring the gospel and plant churches all throughout North America.  In fact statistics say that before 1840, most circuit preachers died before their 30th birthday!

Circuit Rider Sunday - September 26, '21

There are so many inspiring men and women who have gone before us!  We had some fun bringing the heart of it all to life on this special day!

  • Montana Circuit Riders in 1890

At this gathering in Deer Lodge, Montana, these preachers, and others gathered with them, made a commitment to fast & pray one Friday a month, for the future pastors of Montana.

It really is stirring to know that as we look at the faces in this picture, taken in 1890, that these leaders were praying for us!

  • Brother Van

“Brother Van was to be the preacher on a large, as far as territory went, circuit.  It included Madison, Beaverhead, and a part of Jefferson Counties, and involved an occasional trip to Salmon City, Idaho, some 170 miles away from Virginia City, which was the territorial capital.  There was 15 appointments where he was to hold regular services, and only 18 members in the whole wide circuit.  Of course he could find not more than two or three in any one place."       - Quote from:  When Wagon Trails Were Dim

  • Brother Logan

"He says that he was expected to spread himself over a circuit of 1,500 sqr miles, but felt that he was not adequate to cover the area but thinly … Brother Logan began with 3 preaching points, but these were increased by the addition of the communities being added.

  • All set for the journey
